In support of the European Union’s security and defense operations in the Middle East and the Red Sea known as Aspides, the Netherlands will send a logistical ship to the region from May to August

Operation Aspides is the European Union’s response to Houthi attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. This group, supported by Iran, has been targeting commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since last November

The Royal Netherlands Navy will deploy the multi-purpose support ship HNLMS Karel Doorman to distribute ammunition, medical care, and mission-related supplies in this area
