The Earthquake that Exposed Erdogan’s Fault Lines
Foreign Policy wrote that the initial shock of Turkey’s biggest earthquake in the last 100 years has now turned into anger, as fragile buildings in southern Turkey collapsed, so did the government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey. The Turkish elections are set for May, but right before that, a hellish storm of destruction occurred. At least 40,000 people lost their lives in this natural and structural disaster. Although infrastructure and development have been the main focus of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) of Erdogan’s campaign over the past 20 years, poor construction might lead to his downfall.
