The EU Calls for a Return to the Diplomatic Path with Iran

Kallas of the European Union calls for a return to the diplomatic path with Iran

Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, announced on Tuesday, July 14, that the issue of the Islamic Republic and the approaching deadline for the use of the snapback mechanism would be discussed at the meeting of foreign ministers of member countries, emphasizing that the European Union desires a return to the diplomatic path.

Before the start of the Brussels meeting, one day after the tenth anniversary of the signing of the JCPOA agreement, she told reporters that it is in our interest to return to negotiations and we are ready to do just that.

Kallas also noted the role of the European Union in the nuclear JCPOA agreement and reminded that the last deadline for activating the snapback mechanism is September 1.

According to the provisions of the JCPOA, in the event of a breach of commitments by the Islamic Republic, the countries party to the agreement can refer the matter to the United Nations Security Council through the snapback mechanism.

If approved by this council, the international sanctions that were previously suspended based on the JCPOA would be reinstated.
