The European Troika Announced the Conditions for Delaying the Trigger Mechanism

The European Troika announced the conditions for delaying the trigger mechanism.

On Friday, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, by publishing a text on X, once again deemed the actions of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom in activating the trigger mechanism as unethical, unjustifiable, and illegal, and wrote that the time has come for the council and the world to step forward and say enough is enough.

Abbas Araghchi accused the three European countries of making this decision on behalf of Israel and the United States and in order to pressure the people of Iran.

Araghchi, stating that the United States has sidelined Europe in all global matters, added that Europe should not deceive itself into thinking that the trigger mechanism is a lever for playing a role in at least one arena.

Iran has clearly stated how pursuing this path will turn the three European countries into an ever-exhausted force.

Referring to the Iran-U.S. negotiations over the past two decades, he wrote that my country has been involved in five rounds of nuclear negotiations with the Trump administration this year.

On the brink of the sixth round of negotiations, Iran was bombed.

First by Israel and then by the United States.

It is outrageous that Europe now accuses Iran of leaving the negotiating table and rejecting dialogue.

Abbas Araghchi emphasized that the reality is we are at a point where the West cannot even guarantee that more illegal military attacks on my people will stop during negotiations.

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, referring to the U.S. withdrawal from the JCPOA, added that the actions of the European Troika effectively reward the violator and punish the victim.

It was the United States that unilaterally withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018 and re-imposed sanctions, not Iran. It was Europe that failed to fulfill its commitments to mitigate the economic impact of the U.S. withdrawal, not Iran.

It was also Europe that not only failed to fulfill its commitments on the transition day of October 2023 but also imposed new illegal sanctions against Iran’s civil aviation and shipping.

Abbas Araghchi, emphasizing that the decision of the three European countries will have significant negative impacts on diplomacy, wrote that this severely undermines the ongoing dialogue between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency and will also require an appropriate response.

Araghchi added that the path Europe has chosen, if not contained, will have severe consequences for the credibility of the United Nations Security Council.

He emphasized that resorting to the trigger mechanism without going through legal procedures or having a legal basis not only undermines trust in the council’s decisions but also endangers international peace and security.
