The European Union intends to sanction 9 officials of the Islamic Republic
Reuters reported that the European Union has decided to sanction 9 officials of the Islamic Republic in response to the unlawful detention of European citizens in Iran.
This decision was finalized after intensive consultations in Brussels and will include the freezing of assets and a travel ban for these individuals to EU member countries.
A high-ranking European official confirmed this news, saying that imprisoning innocent people to use them in political and diplomatic games is unacceptable behavior. Europe cannot remain indifferent to such an action.
Last week, the French government announced it would file a complaint against Iran at the International Court of Justice. Paris has accused the Islamic Republic of violating international law principles by not allowing consular support for imprisoned French citizens.
