The German Foreign Ministry says that the license for the German language institute in Tehran has never been revoked.
The buildings of the German language institute in Tehran were sealed in August 2024. The judicial news agency Mizan reported that the reason was violations of the country’s laws, multiple illegal activities, and extensive financial misconduct.
Three days ago, the English-language Tehran Times newspaper published an article accusing the German language institute of being a cover center and engaging in illegal activities in Iran.
The German Foreign Ministry describes the German language institute in Tehran as an independent and financially self-sufficient entity that offered German language classes and authorized exams.
According to the German Foreign Ministry, this institute received an official license from the Iranian government in 1995 to provide its services. This license has not been officially revoked to date. The German language institute received no legal justification for its closure on August 20, 2024, nor was any search warrant presented on that day.
