The head of Iran’s Customs: Babak Zanjani’s gold bars were not standard
Foroud Asgari, the head of Iran’s Customs, stated regarding the seizure of gold imported by Babak Zanjani that the gold entered customs and has a warehouse receipt, but due to non-compliance with import standards, it must be returned, and the Central Bank has not approved the standard and purity of the imported gold or its weight.
On August 18 of this year, 13 kilograms of imported gold bars to Iran, which had the name and logo of Van Holding associated with Babak Zanjani stamped on them, were seized by customs due to discrepancies in the declared and actual purity and weight, as per the Central Bank’s order.
One day after the news of the seizure of this shipment was released, Babak Zanjani harshly criticized this action and threatened the Central Bank in a video posted on social media.
Zanjani said the era of such actions is over; for ten years, they brought such calamities upon us, even taking us to the brink of execution.
Now, we are not very afraid of these things.
According to a letter from the Organization for the Protection of Consumers and Producers, these bars were seized upon entering the country and handed over to the State Property Organization on charges of gold smuggling.
The ruling mentioned that the source of the currency related to this shipment was unclear.
