The head of the Deaf Association has left the heavy cost of hearing aids for the deaf in unwanted silence.
Alireza Najafpour, the head of the Deaf Association, says that the average price of hearing aids in Iran is between 20 to 100 million tomans, making it impossible for most deaf individuals to purchase them.
According to him, insurance does not provide any assistance to the deaf for purchasing 100 million toman hearing aids and constantly says that hearing aids are not covered by us.
Mr. Najafpour also said that the Welfare Organization of Iran pays no attention to the demands of the deaf concerning hearing aids and other equipment.
Not using hearing aids in individuals with hearing loss has significant consequences that vary depending on age, severity of hearing loss, type of hearing loss, and duration of auditory deprivation.
Not using hearing aids can lead to a gradual decline in the brain’s auditory processing performance, a gradual increase in hearing loss, isolation, and even cognitive decline or dementia.
For children, this issue is much more serious and leads to educational deficiencies and speech disorders.
In countries like the United Kingdom, the provision of hearing aids, batteries, and their repair is completely free and the responsibility of the National Health Service.
