The Head of the Regulatory Authority: Increasing Internet Tariffs is Conditional on Quality Improvement

The head of the regulatory authority says increasing internet tariffs is contingent upon improving quality.

The head of the Communications Regulatory Authority announced the conditions and quality indicators for network enhancement to operators.

Amir Lajvardi said that operators submitted requests and provided us with statistical data. We have the capability and authority to change tariffs, but any tariff change is conditional upon knowing how the operator plans to spend this increased revenue. Therefore, we have asked operators for developmental plans and informed them of the network quality improvement indicators.

According to him, these indicators vary and include increasing speed among other network quality indicators, and they are indeed stringent, which operators must adhere to.

Lajvardi’s reference is to the recent requests from some fixed and mobile internet service providers to increase internet prices. In recent days, they have written a letter to Ebrahim Raisi requesting a doubling of the price of most internet packages.
