Mehdi Zare, a member of the scientific board of the Seismology Research Institute, stated that the depletion of groundwater and the drying of the lake have influenced the triggering of recent earthquakes in Lake Urmia. Additionally, they have been effective in the occurrence of six earthquakes with magnitudes between 5.5 and 6 from September 2022 to April 2023 in the Khoy region.
