The Campaign for Human Rights in Iran condemns the prison sentence of the protesting teacher Atakeh Rajabi.
The Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, in a statement on the X network, has condemned the sentencing of the Iranian protesting teacher Atakeh Rajabi to prison.
Earlier, the Iranian Teachers’ Union reported that Ms. Rajabi, a union activist for educators in Taybad, was sentenced by the judge of Branch 35 of the Khorasan Razavi Province Court of Appeals to two months of imprisonment and four months of suspended imprisonment.
The Human Rights Campaign wrote that Ms. Rajabi showed great courage last year at the height of the ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ protests by releasing a video in which she urged the authorities to stop the violence against protesters.
This organization wrote that she paid a heavy price for this action, losing her job, and now the Court of Appeals has upheld her six-month prison sentence based on baseless charges.
We strongly condemn this injustice and express solidarity with Atakeh and all those who have bravely raised their voices for a more just society.
On May 9th, Ms. Rajabi was arrested by security forces in Mashhad as she left her home to participate in a teachers’ protest gathering. She was released from Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad on May 14th after posting a bail of one billion and five hundred thousand tomans.
