The Judiciary Announces 22,000 Pardoned Protesters

Ejei announced the number of pardoned protesters to be 22,000.

The head of the Judiciary of the Islamic Republic, who on March 6th had mentioned the number of prisoners and detainees included in the pardon to be over 80,000, but had refrained from providing an exact figure of freed protesters, gave explanations on Monday, March 13th.

Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, speaking on Monday at the session of the Supreme Judicial Council, stated that so far 82,000 people have been pardoned, and this number might increase. Out of this, 22,000 are those pardoned from the unrests, who were either convicted or pardoned before conviction. Of course, a small number of these individuals were in prison, and most were either outside on bail or their cases had not yet been fully processed.

Officials of the Islamic Republic always refer to public protests as unrests and arrest protesters on charges of unrest.
