The Largest US and South Korea Military Exercise in the Past 5 Years

The largest US-South Korea military exercise in the past 5 years

South Korea and the United States have started their largest joint military exercise in the last five years. This military maneuver, named Freedom Shield, is set to continue for ten days.

Washington and Seoul have intensified their military cooperation in response to what they call the growing threat from Pyongyang. On Sunday, the North Korean army launched two strategic cruise missiles from a submarine off the country’s eastern coast.

This was the latest in a series of North Korea’s banned weapons tests.

Earlier this month, South Korea revealed that their special forces had previously conducted a drill simulating precise US attacks on key North Korean facilities.
