The Law to Annul Child Marriages in Germany is Being Reviewed

The law on the annulment of child marriages in Germany is being reviewed

The Federal Constitutional Court of Germany, located in the city of Karlsruhe, has found the law passed in 2017 against child marriages in the country to be flawed and has deemed it unconstitutional. According to the court, this law needs to be amended.

According to the ruling of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany, the comprehensive ban on child marriages violates the country’s constitution, and this law, which was passed in 2017, requires amendment.

The judges of this court announced on Wednesday, March 29, that although the legislator can annul child marriages under the age of 16 that occurred outside Germany without reviewing the case, currently there is no way to continue the marriage under German law once the two children reach the legal age.
