The Minister of Communications has stated that fiber optic equipment has been destroyed by the telecommunications company.
In response to the question about various reports from some cities indicating that the telecommunications company has been destroying the fiber optic equipment and communication cables of some internet companies to eliminate competitors, Issa Zarepour said, ‘We have also received reports, and videos have been published on social media showing such incidents. I have repeatedly mentioned that the Iranian Telecommunications Company is no longer the only player in the fixed communications sector and must accept that competitors have emerged and new partners have been found. It should operate in a competitive environment where people have the right to choose.’
He said, ‘We are on the side of the people. Anyone who can provide a better service for the people will naturally be chosen by them, and we should not prevent people from making their choice.’
He emphasized that in situations where there is the possibility of a better service being offered by another operator, the telecommunications company or any other service should not hinder the provision of better service.
Zarepour mentioned the Ministry of Communications’ approach in case the trend of fiber optic destruction continues, saying, ‘Both sectors are private. If someone acts to destroy another’s property, the procedures are specified in the law, and there are avenues for addressing it. They can pursue it according to the law. But it seems like a transitional period, and it will definitely be resolved amicably.’
