The monthly payment for a housing loan is about 35 million tomans.
A worker’s monthly salary is at most 9 to 10 million tomans.
While the monthly payment for a 960 million toman housing loan from the bank is about 35 million tomans, workers with a maximum salary of 9 to 10 million tomans are naturally excluded from the list of those eligible for a housing loan from the bank.
Whenever the topic of workers’ living costs and their livelihood challenges is discussed, experts consistently point out that about 70% of workers’ living expenses are spent on housing costs.
Recent statistics from the Iranian Statistics Center show that the average housing price has decreased by 5% this summer, according to the data.
One of the ways that might assist workers in becoming homeowners is receiving housing loans. Unfortunately, with the current conditions for loan payments, workers cannot afford the installments.
According to the decision of the Supreme Labor Council, workers’ wages increased by 27% in 2023. As a result, the minimum monthly wage rose from 4,179,750 tomans in 2022 to 5,308,282 tomans in 2023. This means a worker in Tehran, with job benefits, earns about 9 million tomans. So how is it possible for a worker, alongside costs for food, healthcare, education, clothing, transportation, leisure, communications, goods and services, and most importantly, housing rent, to take steps towards obtaining a housing loan with high installments?
The new loan payments by the bank for large families in Tehran, with the maximum housing loan, are such that none of the workers can receive it, because they have to pay a monthly installment of 35 million tomans, which does not match the average income of worker households and is several times a worker’s salary.
