The National Resistance Council of Afghanistan: Do not hand over the Afghan embassy in Tehran to the Taliban

The National Resistance Council for the Salvation of Afghanistan, which consists of jihadist leaders and officials of the former government of this country, has described the handover of the embassy in Tehran to the Taliban as contrary to diplomatic norms and against Afghanistan’s national interests.

In a statement, this council expressed its belief that the Islamic Republic of Iran respects the will and national interests of Afghanistan and expects the Iranian government to reconsider this matter, supporting the continuation of the embassy’s affairs in its previous structure to ensure reliable and safe services for Afghan migrants residing in the country.

Last week, Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in this regard that the end of a diplomat’s mission and handing over the embassy’s affairs to another diplomat from the same embassy does not mean a change in the legal status of that embassy.
