The Epidemic of Suicide in Iran

In the meeting on suicide in Iran, reasons and countermeasures were discussed in the Etemad newspaper.

According to official reports from the National Forensic Organization, between the years 2001 to 2019, the number of suicide victims in 14 provinces surpassed the national average, reaching more than 49 per 100,000 people. During this period, hanging, poisoning with toxins and drugs, self-immolation, shooting with firearms, and jumping from heights were the most common methods of suicide in Iran. The report highlights a fivefold increase in suicides by firearms in Tehran, a tenfold increase in self-immolation in Golestan province, a fourfold increase in hanging in Tehran, and a threefold increase in suicides by firearms in the provinces of Qom and Fars as the most notable statistics.
