The President of Turkey: The municipal elections are my last elections

The President of Turkey spoke for the first time on Friday about leaving power and emphasized that the municipal elections scheduled for March 31 will be the last for him.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey, who has been in power as Prime Minister and then as President since 2003, said, ‘I continue my work tirelessly. We are running with one breath because for me, this is the end of the road. With the authority given to me by the law, these elections are my last elections.’

According to the Al Jazeera network website, 22 days before the elections, he told a crowd from the Turkish Youth Foundation, ‘But the outcome will be a blessing for my brothers who will come after me. The transfer of trust will take place.’

Polling centers in Turkey say that the differences between opposition parties strengthen President Erdogan’s hopes that the Justice and Development Party can regain the Istanbul seat in the upcoming municipal elections. This comes after Erdogan secured a third and final presidential term last year in accordance with the constitution.
