The Prosecutor Lady Takes on Trump

USA 2024: Is It Kamala Harris’s Turn?

The prosecutor lady takes on Trump after Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race for the White House. It seems the Democrats have united in support of Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States, as the leading candidate of the party in the presidential election, and Trump looks beatable again.

Joe Biden, the President of the United States, believes Kamala Harris is the best, and his decision to withdraw from the election was the right one.

Biden said the name of the candidate has changed, but I will campaign alongside Harris and will not disappear from the scene.

Hours after Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the race for the White House, attention turned to Vice President Kamala Harris.

My first decision as the party’s candidate in 2020 was to choose Kamala Harris as my Vice President.

It was the best decision I made. Today I want to offer my full support for Kamala as our party’s candidate this year.

Democrats believe it’s time for unity and victory.

But it’s not only because of the President’s support that Harris is considered the most likely successor candidate. According to the Financial Times, Biden’s decision came after a few prominent party figures and donors explicitly stated they would support Harris.

Additionally, Chuck Schumer, the Senate Majority Leader, Hakeem Jeffries, the House Minority Leader, and Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker of the House, have agreed in private.

It’s also notable that according to the fundraising platform ActBlue, Harris raised over $467 million in the seven hours after launching her campaign, which was more than the Biden-Harris campaign raised in a day.

Operation Coconut Tree

Now, for the Vice President who said she wants to secure the nomination, the challenge is to introduce herself to the American public.

Indeed, it’s no secret that during the four years she spent alongside Joe Biden, Harris didn’t have much chance to shine.

Initially, she was entrusted with difficult cases like immigration and voting rights, where she showed some inexperience. However, in recent months, she has been reassessed due to her determination and competence in leading the Democrats during the attack on hot topics related to minority rights and abortion.

Kamala Harris, the daughter of a Jamaican father and an Indian mother, is the first Black woman of South Asian descent to hold the Vice Presidency and is likely to run for the White House.

It’s no coincidence that the code name chosen for her protection by the Secret Service was Pioneer.

With extensive experience as a prosecutor, which honed her oratory skills, and as a senator from California, she is a moderate but holds more progressive positions than Biden on ethical issues.

Since she was a girl, she tried to balance civil rights activism and professional work in the world of justice, a difficult balance that brought her much criticism and even accusations of duality within the Democrats.

However, Harris represents a bridge between the older, generally moderate representatives of the party and the newer, more progressive generation who focus more on issues like equality and social rights.

A year and a half ago, a strange quote from her mother circulated on social media, saying, ‘You think you’ve fallen from the coconut tree. You exist in the womb of everything you live in and what came before you. You’re part of a whole.’ This led to the spread of funny jokes on social media, to the extent that some now refer to her candidacy for the upcoming presidential election as Operation Coconut Tree.

Will it become a reality?

Another element that strengthens Harris’s candidacy is the fact that in the hours following Biden’s announcement, some of the most prominent party members declared their support for her. The Vice President also secured endorsements from the Black and Hispanic caucus groups, two main coordinating groups present in Congress, which helps prevent any opposing candidates.

Statements of support for her continued throughout Sunday, although there were some notable absences, which might indicate a desire for a Democratic convention and a primary battle ahead of the Chicago convention in mid-August.

Former President Barack Obama and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, two key figures in the party, and according to reports from press sources close to the party, played a key role in convincing Biden to withdraw from the race, have not explicitly declared their support.

Obama stated, ‘In the coming days, we will navigate uncharted waters, but I am confident that our party leaders can create a process from which an exceptional candidate will emerge.’

However, many analysts believe that the lack of support for Harris does not indicate a lack of trust in her but rather a desire to favor a transitional process that is as democratic and transparent as possible to protect her candidacy from potential attacks and mobilize Democratic voters.

Who is Harris’s running mate?

With less than 106 days left until the November vote, and considering early voting in many states, much less time remains. One thing is certain: Harris must quickly identify her opponent.

Among those who have declared their support for her, several figures are considered potential running mates for Harris. Among them, besides Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, are governors like Roy Cooper of North Carolina, a former attorney general with whom Harris had an excellent relationship that continued during her Senate tenure, Josh Shapiro, Governor of Pennsylvania, Mark Kelly, a former astronaut and husband of former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, a mass shooting victim in Arizona in 2011.

Also, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, a major Biden supporter in the campaign and currently serving his second term as governor, or Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, serving his second term in a deeply Republican state, and Gretchen Whitmer, Governor of Michigan, a popular governor of a key swing state, is recognized as a rising star in the Democratic Party.

A swing state is a state where neither of the two main parties and their candidates have decisive support to rely on its electoral votes.

These states are highly targeted by presidential election campaigns in the United States because winning in these states leads to winning the election.

Whitmer is the governor of a state with the largest Arab American community, and she might play a significant role in helping Harris win back some angry voters over the Biden administration’s handling of the Gaza conflict.

If Whitmer is chosen and introduced as Harris’s running mate, it would be the first all-women ticket in history for the White House race.
