The Desperation of Lake Urmia

In the release of new statistics about the blue jewel of Azerbaijan, the current area of Lake Urmia is 93,810 square kilometers.

According to the statistics published on the East Azerbaijan Regional Water website on December 24th, the level of Lake Urmia has decreased by 49 centimeters compared to the same period last year, reaching 1,270.14 meters. Compared to the beginning of the water year in October 2022, it has increased by only one centimeter. However, it is still 429 meters below the long-term average.
