The treasury handed over to the government of Masoud Pezeshkian is not even enough to cover 23 days of employee salaries.
Figures published in the letter from the Minister of Economy of the thirteenth government to Mohammad Mokhber, the acting president, show that the treasury handed over to Masoud Pezeshkian’s government contains only 10,500 billion tomans.
This meager amount is equivalent to 170 million dollars or the value of one day of Iran’s oil exports.
The treasury’s balance of 105 trillion tomans comes at a time when customs statistics show that Iran’s oil export revenues have grown by 35% this spring, reaching a peak of 12 billion dollars.
Ehsan Khandozi, the Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, stated in his letter that the treasury’s net claim from the Targeted Subsidies Organization is about 8 trillion tomans, which, along with the cash balance of 105 trillion tomans, would total nearly 185 trillion tomans positive. Meanwhile, in August 2021, at the start of Ebrahim Raisi’s government, 53 trillion tomans were owed to the Central Bank as an advance. The Asr Iran news site wrote in this regard that the treasury’s balance of 105 trillion tomans is only enough to cover less than three days of government employee salaries.
