The Risk of Land Subsidence Reaches the Vicinity of the Shrine of the Eighth Shia Imam

The threat of land subsidence has reached around the shrine of the eighth Imam of the Shia.

An official in the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development announced that the rate of land subsidence in Khorasan Razavi Province is five times that of Isfahan.

According to ILNA, Ali Beitollahi, head of the risk section at the Research Center, said on Monday, June 11, that the extent of land subsidence has reached the northwest of Mashhad and added that the rate of this phenomenon is about 20 centimeters per year.

According to Mr. Beitollahi, this subsidence has entered the city and gradually affects the city center and the vicinity of Imam Reza’s shrine.

The phenomenon of subsidence, which occurs due to drought and extensive extraction from groundwater resources, has been increasing in Iran in recent years.

Experts warn that the spread of this phenomenon not only affects the lives of millions of citizens but also causes serious damage to historical and ancient buildings.
