The Situation of Afghan Refugee Journalists in Iran

According to the Afghan newspaper Etilaat Roz, several Afghan journalists who sought refuge in Iran after the Taliban regained power have called on international media-supporting organizations to put an end to their dire and unstable situation.

In a protest action held indoors, these journalists announced that countries granting humanitarian visas and international organizations have forgotten them, and they are neither allowed to work nor reside in Iran.

Afghan journalists in Iran have stated that their visas have expired, putting them at serious risk of deportation. Due to economic difficulties and fear of deportation, they live in anxiety and have developed mental health issues.

A large number of Afghan journalists in Pakistan also remain in limbo. Security threats against journalists in Afghanistan and the severe restrictions imposed by the Taliban on the media have forced many Afghan journalists to migrate.
