The Story of China’s Spy Balloon Against the USA
On Thursday, American officials claimed that the United States is tracking a Chinese surveillance balloon that has been observed over the country’s airspace for several days.
A senior U.S. defense official told reporters that the United States is very confident that this high-altitude Chinese balloon is flying over sensitive nuclear and missile sites in the United States to gather information.
One of the locations where the balloon was spotted was Montana, which is home to one of the three U.S. nuclear missile silos.
The balloon became so newsworthy that U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken halted his trip to China.
The Chinese government has confirmed ownership of the balloon and stated that it is reviewing the information.
The U.S. Department of Defense, the Pentagon, announced early Saturday that a second Chinese surveillance balloon has been spotted over Latin America.
The U.S. Secretary of State said we are confident that the identified Chinese balloon over the northern United States is being used for espionage purposes and we have discussed this with our allies and partners.
