The Taliban Halted Nowruz Celebrations in Afghanistan

The Taliban have halted Nowruz celebrations in Afghanistan

While Taliban officials in Afghanistan announced last year that they would not prevent citizens from holding Nowruz ceremonies, reports now indicate that in central Afghanistan, the group’s forces have stopped Nowruz celebrations and confronted citizens.

According to reports, this year’s Nowruz ceremonies have declined in most parts of Afghanistan under Taliban pressure. On the first day of Farvardin, Taliban forces, including in Daikundi province in central Afghanistan, where most residents are Hazara and Shia, have forcibly stopped Nowruz rituals.

According to these reports, the Taliban have warned participants in Nowruz ceremonies in Daikundi that celebrating Nowruz will have serious consequences for them.
