The Taliban's Minister of Communications has prepared a plan to restrict or completely ban Facebook

The Taliban Minister of Communications has prepared a plan to limit or completely ban Facebook.

The Taliban government’s Minister of Communications has indicated the possibility of limiting or completely banning certain social networks, including Facebook. The ministry states that the plan is complete, and the final decision will be made by the Taliban cabinet.

Inayatullah Alkozai, the spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Communications, also told BBC that Facebook has adopted policies contrary to the Islamic Emirate’s system and has imposed a ban on expressing opinions across all parts of our system.

Meta, the owner of social networks Facebook, Instagram, and messaging service WhatsApp, had previously stated that it has banned Taliban activities or promotions and will close accounts belonging to Taliban members. Meta regards the Taliban as a dangerous organization.

Mr. Alkozai added, ‘I must clearly say that the minister did not outright say Facebook will be blocked in Afghanistan, but rather mentioned that work has been done on the plan and its reasons have been clearly stated.’
