Britain imposed extensive new sanctions against Russia
On the eve of the third year of Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine, Britain announced sanctions on more than 50 individuals and entities aimed at undermining the Kremlin’s military capabilities.
According to the British Foreign Office on Thursday, February 23rd, the new sanctions list includes several Russian importers and manufacturers of machinery whose products can be used in defense and weapon systems.
Since February 2022, when Moscow began its attack on Ukraine, Vladimir Putin’s government in Russia has been the target of the world’s toughest and most extensive sanctions regime.
However, the death of Alexei Navalny, Putin’s biggest opponent, in prison last week, coinciding with the anniversary days of the war in Ukraine, has led to a new wave of sanctions from the West against Moscow.
The new British sanctions were announced one day after European Union members also agreed on their thirteenth package of sanctions against Moscow, sanctioning nearly 200 individuals and entities in connection with the war in Ukraine.
