The United Nations called for Russia to withdraw from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine.
99 countries at the United Nations General Assembly voted for Russia to withdraw from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine.
Through this resolution, which is not legally binding, the United Nations has requested, among other things, that Russia immediately withdraw its military forces and other unauthorized personnel from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and place the plant under Ukraine’s full control.
The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine was captured by Russian forces in the early days of Russia’s military attack on the country, and military conflict around it has caused concern.
Recently, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), expressed concern about attacks on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine and warned of the opening of a new and very dangerous front in the conflict.
The text of the resolution, which was opposed by 9 countries and abstained by 60 countries, also states that Moscow should cease its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
