The United Nations should conduct a transparent investigation into the killing of Afghans at the Iran border.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) called for an investigation following conflicting reports of the killing and wounding of several Afghan refugees near the Saravan border in Iran.
On Thursday, October 18, this mission emphasized the rights of migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers under international law and wrote on social media platform X that UNAMA is calling for a full and transparent investigation into the alleged incident.
The human rights organization Halwash reported that as a result of shooting by Iranian military forces on the evening of Sunday, October 14, more than 200 Afghan nationals were killed, and among the Afghan citizens trying to enter Iran, only 60 to 70 survived.
On the other hand, the Taliban government’s spokesperson’s office announced on Thursday on social media platform X that a high-ranking delegation led by Mohammad Ibrahim Sadr, the Deputy Security Minister of the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, will investigate the matter.
