The United States Department sanctioned the Palestinian Authority and members of the Palestine Liberation Organization.
On Thursday, the United States imposed sanctions on officials of the Palestinian Authority and members of the Palestine Liberation Organization, stating that these groups undermine peace efforts, while American officials separately seek to salvage ceasefire negotiations in Gaza, opening a new window of opportunity.
The U.S. Department of State, although not listing any specific individuals in its sanctions, announced that this measure prevents the targeted individuals from obtaining visas to travel to the United States.
In a statement, the department declared that this action is in our national security interest to impose consequences and hold the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority accountable for not adhering to their commitments and undermining the prospects for peace.
These sanctions were announced as, in recent days, a large number of countries around the world have welcomed the proposal by Saudi Arabia and France to recognize an independent Palestinian state and the two-state solution, and have declared that they will recognize Palestine.
