The U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee is summoning Antony Blinken in connection with Afghanistan.
Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives intend to summon Antony Blinken, the Secretary of State, regarding confidential communications related to the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Michael McCaul, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told the Associated Press that he spoke with Mr. Blinken earlier on Monday, and Mr. Blinken informed him that the State Department will not provide a so-called dissent cable that American diplomats at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul had written just before August 2021.
Mr. McCaul said in a statement, ‘We have made several good-faith efforts to reach a compromise to see this sensitive information. Unfortunately, Mr. Blinken has refused to provide the dissent cable and his response to it, which compels me to issue the first subpoena as chairman of the committee.’
In that diplomatic communication in July 2021, which was sent through a special dissent channel, Mr. Blinken was warned about the potential fall of Kabul.
