The U.S. is doing everything to ban TikTok

Both the United States and the European Union are considering banning TikTok. They are restricting how user data is managed and generally increasing surveillance on this app compared to, for example, Facebook or Instagram. These two entities have gone even further and, fearing espionage, have prohibited government employees from installing the app.

Even though TikTok’s headquarters are in Beijing, they have over 100 million users in the United States monthly and more than 10,000 employees working at their parent company, ByteDance. This has raised security concerns and led to a confrontational stance by American lawmakers and China critics.

Part of these security concerns is because ByteDance has previously complied with the Chinese Communist Party.
