The United States is pursuing the enforcement of sanctions on Iran at the G20 summit.
Finance ministers and central bank governors of the G20 member countries will gather on Monday and Tuesday, August 31 and September 1, in Asheville, North Carolina, USA.
An official from the U.S. Treasury Department announced that Washington will emphasize the enforcement of its sanctions against Iran at this summit. It is expected that U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant will also engage in bilateral meetings with his counterparts to discuss the economic pressure campaign against Iran.
China, as the largest buyer of Iranian oil, is one of the key players in implementing this policy. However, it is still unclear whether Besant will meet with Chinese officials on the sidelines of the summit.
The U.S. government had previously announced that teams from the Treasury, State, and Defense Departments are consulting with various countries about limiting economic relations with Iran and have warned about the consequences of continuing trade with Tehran, including restricted access to the dollar-based financial system.
