The U.S. sanctioned Iran’s Attorney General and several IRGC and Basij commanders
The U.S. government said on Wednesday that it has imposed sanctions on Iran’s Attorney General and key military officials in connection with the suppression of protests in Iran.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury stated in a press release that sanctions have been imposed on Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, the Attorney General, for issuing an order in September for heavy penalties against detainees.
Other sanctioned individuals include Moslem Moein, head of the Cyber Space Headquarters, Hassan Hassanzadeh, IRGC commander in Tehran, Sadegh Hosseini, IRGC commander of Kurdistan’s Beit al-Moqaddas, and Hossein Maroufi, deputy coordinator of the Basij.
Additionally, the company Imen Sanat Zaman Fara was sanctioned for manufacturing equipment for Iranian law enforcement forces, including armored vehicles to counter gatherings.
