The village head of Kenarsandal says the ancient site in this area doesn’t matter to me, only the reopening of the stadium is important.
While the Kenarsandal site in Jiroft is considered one of the most important signs of the ancient Aratta civilization, the village head has started a construction project for a sports complex in the heart of this site based on a development plan and without cultural heritage permission.
In Jiroft, under the pretext of building a sports complex, they are busy plowing one of the most important ancient civilizational sites in the world.
Even archaeologists believe that the dormant civilization on the Kenarsandal mound, which is several thousand years old, could be as significant as the ancient Mesopotamian civilization.
Qader Shirvani, the director of the Jiroft National Heritage Base, has called this action illegal and deliberate, stating that all legal warnings have been ignored.
According to him, parts of the valuable artifacts in this area, including the walls of the structures and clay figures, have been severely damaged.
In response to these criticisms, the village head of Kenarsandal has said, for me, the people are important, not the world registration and the ancient site.
Nader Alidadi, an archaeologist, has called this action a clear violation and warned that continuing the destruction without obtaining the necessary permits will lead to the irreparable destruction of a unique historical site.
The development plan, which was approved without the signature of cultural heritage, may now forever eliminate the chance of Kenarsandal being registered as a world heritage site.
With this trend continuing, concerns about the complete destruction of one of the unknown and valuable civilizations of the Iranian plateau are increasing.
