The vote of Arab and Muslim Americans is not important

The opinion of Arab and Muslim Americans is not important.

The Democratic Party convention in Chicago has ended, and one of its most important features was the containment of concerns about the destructive impact of public protests by supporters of Palestinians and critics of the Israeli government.

In this event, Arab American representatives were not given the opportunity to speak, even though a special text supporting Harris and confirming his general policies was prepared, and there was no provision for a positive and calm speech by Muslim American representatives.

The crisis in Gaza has affected various Muslim and non-Muslim Arab Americans. On the other hand, it should be noted that criticizing the Israeli government and supporting Palestinians is not exclusive to Arab and Muslim Americans, and various spectrums of Americans share this concern. However, it cannot be denied that the crisis resulting from Hamas’ attack and what happened that day, as well as the dirty behavior of this organization’s forces, has permanently influenced a significant portion of Americans. In any case, the issue of the opinion of Arab and Muslim Americans in this year’s elections has been highly highlighted.

From the early months of Israel’s attack on Gaza, which coincided with the preliminary elections of the Democratic Party, the movement of saying no to Biden and giving a blank or non-committal vote to a specific candidate turned into a special movement.

The non-committal vote in states like Michigan and Minnesota was so high that it gained legitimacy. Therefore, only Biden and non-committal votes gained legitimacy, and the non-committal delegations for this group were also preserved after Harris entered the elections.

The request for the right to speak at the convention with this popular support was a reasonable request. Beyond that, there are vital points in this story, such as the confrontation of Arab and American Muslims with the Biden administration over the Gaza crisis, which has been less covered by the media. Above all, it must be noted that a significant portion of the protesters’ activities and the behavior of protesting groups in universities and other public arenas have been peaceful.

However, there were groups that raised the most extreme anti-Semitic slogans and widely supported Hamas and the October 7th operations.

The American people have seen the savage images of Hamas on that day, and naturally, any support for Hamas and that heinous day is a heavy blow to peaceful efforts to help the people of Gaza. Their images, symbols, and slogans have been and are accompanied by unprecedented violence and insults. The important point is the electoral value of Arabs and Muslims, naturally defined within the context of the American elections with its unique conditions.

In these circumstances, more than any other state, Michigan is of serious importance, and the protests and anger of Arabs and Muslims in the current situation are very serious.

The American Arab and Muslim population in this state, especially in the well-known area of Dearborn, can be decisive when a difference of tens of thousands of votes can change the fate of its electoral votes.

But is it really worth enduring all this political and electoral pressure for the Harris campaign? Perhaps not. The indications suggest that in 2020, despite all the solidarity with Biden, he had 60% support among Arabs and Americans.

In particular, Muslim-populated areas in states like Michigan may not only have significant risk value but may not even have a reason for maximal activity among them.

Various spectrums of them are deeply angered by Trump and his anti-Muslim policies, and their dissatisfaction with him is not over yet.

However, a significant portion of these groups are considered to be sympathetic to the extremist Republican views with fanatic beliefs and religious extremist beliefs.

The spread of cultural tolerance and acceptance in America, as well as the freedoms and rights of homosexuals, abortion debates, and similar examples, have made them sympathetic to extremist Republicans. In the Michigan state party leadership, three of them are Arabs.

Even the declaration of extremist Christian nationalist policies has not had much impact.

Muslims joined protests and various programs against liberal education and culture in this state, and the media reported on the alliance of these two factions.

It may be better for Trump himself to create grounds for Democrats with xenophobia, Islamophobia, and announced policies to expel immigrants.

It is Trump who supports Israel for final operations and the siege of Gaza, and Robert Kennedy, who openly supports him, also supports a much more aggressive policy and position.

Groups of protesters who are affiliated with the Iranian regime and in some of their programs waved a decapitated puppet of Biden in the sky leave little room for further discussion.

The enduring links between various spectrums of Arab Americans and Republicans are still alive and require a detailed narrative that demands a separate account.

There is a minor point in this story that we will refer to in order to conclude the matter.

Tiffany, Trump’s daughter, is the bride of a Lebanese-American family, and Republicans’ efforts to attract Arab votes through her, as a wealthy merchant, continue, but their market and efforts have not been successful so far.
