The Wall Street Journal: Iran demands the right to collect fees for the Strait of Hormuz and a reduction in oil sanctions.
The Wall Street Journal, citing mediators, reported that during negotiations for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has demanded the right to collect transit fees from ships, guarantees to prevent further attacks, an end to the U.S. naval blockade, and a reduction in oil sanctions.
According to the newspaper, the U.S. and regional countries have opposed collecting fees from ships and, in return, are seeking guarantees from Iran regarding non-threatening behavior towards shipping and regional countries.
Based on this report, if an agreement on reopening the Strait of Hormuz is finalized, mediators will then work on reviving the Iran-U.S. memorandum of understanding that was previously signed.
The Wall Street Journal also reported that Pakistan has offered to host a new round of negotiations between Iran and the U.S.
