The wave of workforce reductions in Silicon Valley has reached Amazon
While Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, undertook extensive layoffs, and Mark Zuckerberg had to console the laid-off employees with some flexibility and kindness, the news of widespread layoffs at Amazon symbolizes the seriousness of extensive workforce reductions in the tech sector in the United States.
The number of employees being laid off from Amazon will reach ten thousand, and this is happening while Jeff Bezos, alongside announcing the layoffs at his key company, stated that he will donate a large portion of his wealth to various charitable causes. His interviews about donating his wealth were broadcast simultaneously with the news of the layoffs.
Still, one of the ugliest and darkest behaviors towards employees this year was exhibited by Elon Musk with the workforce at Twitter. The layoffs were conducted without prior notice, and the process of their removal was extremely ugly and messy, leading to a lot of criticism.
