The White House says Joe Biden and Benjamin Netanyahu are discussing the evacuation order for Rafah residents.
The White House announced that following the Israeli army’s order to evacuate about 100,000 residents from the east of Rafah city in the southern Gaza Strip, Joe Biden will have a phone conversation with Benjamin Netanyahu.
International news agencies reported on Monday, May 7, citing a White House National Security Council spokesperson, ‘We cannot speak on behalf of the Israeli army. We have clearly communicated our stance on a large-scale ground invasion of Rafah to the Israeli government, and the U.S. President will speak with the Israeli Prime Minister today.’
He also reminded that continuing negotiations between Israel and Hamas to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza war and the release of Israeli hostages is the best way to prevent an attack on Rafah.
Media outlets have announced that the beginning of efforts to evacuate residents indicates that an Israeli ground invasion of Rafah is imminent.
