The White House: U.S. Policy on Gaza Has Not Changed

The White House’s policy on Gaza has not changed.

John Kirby, the spokesperson and strategic communications coordinator for the U.S. National Security Council, told reporters in Washington on Monday local time that the United States’ abstention from the UN resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza does not indicate a change in our policy. Since the final text lacked provisions such as the condemnation of Hamas, which we believe is necessary, we did not support this resolution.

The White House spokesperson said that American officials are very disappointed with Netanyahu’s decision not to send his advisors for talks at the White House regarding the Rafah operation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled the dispatch of an Israeli delegation to Washington for talks at the White House after the United States abstained from the UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all prisoners.

The Biden administration spokesperson added that nothing has changed regarding our view that a large-scale ground assault in Rafah would be a big mistake.
