Thousands of Workers Demand Repeal of New Wage Resolution

Thousands of workers demand the annulment of the new wage decree

While protests by workers against the 27% wage increase for the new year continue across the country, a letter with thousands of signatures was sent to Ebrahim Raisi demanding the annulment of this decree.

ILNA news agency reported on Wednesday, April 12, that in continuation of these protests, a letter requesting the annulment of this decree, with nearly 20,000 signatures, has been sent to the President’s office.

The government’s decree was announced after the final decision of the Supreme Labor Council, which included representatives from the three parties: the government, employers, and workers. On the last day of the previous year, after several meetings, they declared a 27% increase in the minimum wage for workers in 2023.

However, this decision was made while statistics released by the Iranian Statistics Center indicated that the point-to-point inflation rate in February of the previous year had reached 53.4%, which is almost double the rate of the workers’ wage increase.
