For the first time, a woman is set to officiate in the English men’s Premier League today, Saturday.

Rebecca Welch has previously been part of a refereeing team for matches, but now she is set to be the referee for the Fulham match in the Premier League against Burnley.

Female referees have been present in the English County Cricket and Rugby Union, but until now, there has not been a female referee in the country’s Premier League football.

The refereeing oversight body says that its hiring has not been diverse enough so far.
