Tracking Iranian Cyber Infiltration in the US Elections
Microsoft, which had previously successfully uncovered many aspects of the cyber activities of hackers affiliated with the Iranian regime, has been one of the forces working alongside US security organizations to counter Iranian hackers and cyber activists.
A significant part of the achievements of this company and the counterattacks by US security organizations on various Iranian structures are gradually and long after being executed, made public. On Friday, Microsoft released a special report on fully tracking a group of cyber activists affiliated with the Iranian regime, whose activities were aimed at disrupting the US elections.
According to this report, which in several sections addresses the plans of several countries to influence the US elections, this infiltration operation in the elections was carried out using extensive artificial intelligence to create websites and various accounts to amplify political discord between the two existing poles in the US and radicalize the country’s political atmosphere. They have identified a specific network of various websites called Storm2035, which has been active since October 2023. Part of the activities is dedicated to sympathizing with Trump opponents and Democrats, aligning with their beliefs and approaches, while another part supports extremist and conservative viewpoints, particularly supporting anti-LGBTQ movements and social tolerance. The activities of US security organizations and technology companies in tracking various operations of hostile countries in the US have expanded and gained special strength, and the structures that Joe Biden established at the very beginning of his presidency are demonstrating their capability and effectiveness in combating foreign countries’ infiltration.
