Transfer of a prisoner in Urmia for execution of the death sentence

The human rights news agency Hrana reports that on Thursday, March 16, a prisoner in Urmia prison, who had previously been sentenced to death in connection with drug charges, was transferred to a solitary cell in this prison for the execution of the sentence.

An informed source told Hrana that this prisoner had a final meeting with his family on Thursday.

Hrana wrote that further details regarding this matter, including the identity of this prisoner, are under investigation by Hrana.

Human rights organizations Amnesty International and the Abdorrahman Boroumand Foundation reported on March 2 that at least 94 people were executed in Iran during the months of January and February this year, showing a significant increase compared to the same period last year.
