Trump asked Xi Jinping not to give weapons to Iran
Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced in an interview with Fox Business that he had asked Xi Jinping, the President of China, in a letter to refrain from sending weapons to Iran.
He mentioned Beijing’s response, saying, ‘I wrote him a letter asking him not to do it, and he replied in a letter saying that they essentially wouldn’t do such a thing.’
Trump, who conducted this interview on Tuesday, did not provide an explanation about the timing of these letter exchanges.
The American President also warned last week that countries providing weapons to Iran would face a 50 percent tariff.
He also said he does not expect global oil market developments due to a war with Iran or changes related to Venezuela to affect his planned meeting with the Chinese President next month, adding, ‘He needs oil; we don’t.’
Continuing, Trump referred to the reactions to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, stating these reactions have been very surprising and claimed that Iranian officials have become more flexible compared to the past.
He also mentioned changes in Iran’s leadership, stating, ‘The leaders they have now, to be honest, seem quite reasonable to us.’
The American President reiterated at the end that Washington’s main goal is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
