Donald Trump announced that he has decided to forgo the plan to impose a 20% tariff on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz and will replace it with trade and investment agreements from Gulf countries in the United States.
The President of the United States wrote on the social network Truth Social that after very constructive talks with Middle Eastern leaders, he decided that instead of collecting a 20% transit fee, this amount would be secured through trade and investment agreements from Gulf countries in the United States.
Trump also emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open to all countries except Iran, and the United States will only impose a maritime blockade on ships that travel to Iranian ports or carry goods related to Iran.
He further criticized Iran again, claiming that the leaders of the Islamic Republic have put the country on the path to complete destruction and stressed that Iran will never acquire nuclear weapons.
According to CENTCOM, the maritime blockade of Iran is set to begin in a few hours.
