Trump officially appointed J.D. Vance to lead the United States in ending the war with Iran
Axios reported that Donald Trump, in a Thursday cabinet meeting, officially appointed his deputy, J.D. Vance, to lead U.S. efforts to end the war with Iran. Vance, who previously had doubts about starting this conflict, has now had several calls with Benjamin Netanyahu and has participated in indirect communications with the Iranians.
A White House official told Axios that Vance’s record of opposing endless wars makes him a more appealing negotiator for Tehran compared to Kushner and Wietkoff. This source said, ‘If the Iranians can’t reach an agreement with Vance, they won’t be able to with anyone else. He’s the best option they have.’
However, Axios wrote that Vance’s advisors believe some in Israel are attempting to undermine him due to his insufficiently aggressive approach, a claim that Israeli officials deny.
