Trump said that Israel backed out the night before the operation to kill Qasem Soleimani.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Israel did not participate in the operation to kill Qasem Soleimani, but Benjamin Netanyahu later sought to take credit for it. Mr. Trump added, ‘I didn’t think Netanyahu would leave us alone.’ Last night, during a speech at a campaign rally, Mr. Trump said, ‘I had a bad experience working with Israel when we hit Soleimani. We and Israel were working as a team. We knew where he was, we knew what cover he was using, we knew how he was entering, we knew everything.’
In January 2020, the U.S. targeted a convoy carrying Qasem Soleimani and commanders of the Popular Mobilization Forces with several missiles fired from a drone. In that attack, Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force, and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy of the Popular Mobilization Forces, along with a total of 10 people were killed. This operation was carried out under the order of Donald Trump.
In his account of the operation to assassinate Qasem Soleimani, Mr. Trump said, ‘These things have never been said,’ and continued, ‘Some say it’s classified, but I don’t think so.’
He said, ‘We had been working for weeks and months to kill Soleimani.’
Donald Trump said he will never forget that Benjamin Netanyahu, the then and current Prime Minister of Israel, let us down. ‘It was very terrible. We were very disappointed, but we did it ourselves with high precision, beautifully and cleanly.’
Israel was supposed to carry out this operation with us. Everything was set; we had worked on it for months, we had everything, but the night before the event, I received a call that Israel would not participate in this attack.
