Trump’s reduction of U.S. forces in Germany will be far beyond the 5,000-troop plan
Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced late on Saturday, May 2nd, that Washington intends to significantly reduce its military presence in Germany. This move could escalate tensions with Friedrich Merz, the Chancellor of Germany.
The U.S. Department of Defense, the Pentagon, announced on Friday that over a period of six to twelve months, it will withdraw 5,000 military personnel from one of its allies in the NATO military alliance.
This decision was made following Mr. Merz’s criticisms of the U.S. and Israel’s war against Iran. Mr. Merz had stated in his remarks that it does not seem Washington has a practical and reliable strategy in this regard.
